The delegation of KOICA Viet Nam works in Binh Dinh

(binhdinh.gov.vn) - On the afternoon of December 7, at the headquarters of the Provincial People's Committee (PPC), the delegation of the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Viet Nam (KOICA), led by Mr. Dongouk Ahn - Counselor of the Korean Embassy in Viet Nam, worked with the Provincial People's Committee to evaluate the results of the implementation of the Korea - Viet Nam Mine Action Project (KVMAP) and exchange some issues related to the Korea - Vietnam Peace Village project (KVPVP) in the province.

Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leading representatives of the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Public Security, relevant departments and agencies received and worked with the delegation.

In terms of the KVMAP’s results, Binh Dinh province said: Up to now, KVMAP, funded by the Korean Government through KOICA under the coordination of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Viet Nam Mine Action Center (VNMAC) and implemented in Binh Dinh province has achieved positive results in all 3 components (technical survey and demining; support for landmine victims; propaganda and education to raise people's awareness of mine accident prevention). Through the project, 4,721ha has been cleared of bombs and mines, 5,937ha of clean land has been handed over to localities in the province. In addition, 43,760 people with disabilities and landmine victims were reviewed and updated information on the database system; 1,253 landmine victims affected by the COVID-19 pandemic were supported; 200 households were supported with breeds of cows, pigs and poultry; 974 victims were screened and 121 people were supported with assistive devices, etc. Besides, many activities to propagate and raise people’s awareness of mine accident prevention in the province were also organized.

In response to issues the delegation’s concerned, Binh Dinh PPC said: During the KVMAP’s implementation, the Provincial People's Committee directed the provincial authorities to closely coordinate with VNMAC, UNDP Viet Nam to implement the project synchronously and effectively. Based on meetings to discuss plans, exchange information, inspect and supervise during the project implementation, the KVMAP has been completed as scheduled and achieved important results. Based on the project results, the Provincial People's Committee approved the investment of the KVPVP in Resolution No. 40/NQ-HDND dated September 7, 2022. Binh Dinh has also allocated VND 9.7 billion of counterpart fund for the project; at the same time, there was a written report to the Ministry of Planning and Investment requesting the addition of a medium-term foreign capital plan for the 2021-2025 period to the project. After receiving the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s direction on the project's capital, Binh Dinh would implement the next steps of the project in accordance with regulations.

At the meeting, PPC Vice Chairman Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang expressed his thanks to KOICA Viet Nam for the close cooperation and coordination in supporting and implementing projects in the province in the past years, including the KVMAP. Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang emphasized: The KVMAP has a profound human meaning, which has not only contributed to improving the management of the locality in dealing with the consequences of landmines and mines, and raising people's awareness but also provided practical support to landmine victims, freeing a part of land contaminated with mines and UXO to serve the provincial socio-economic development. For the KVPVP, Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang hoped that KOICA would continue to work closely with the province to successfully implement the project; at the same time, pledged to facilitate and support KOICA and UNDP experts to work with provincial localities to collect information and implement the project.

At the meeting, Counselor of the Korean Embassy in Vietnam Dongouk Ahn emphasized: The KVMAP has a very important meaning, especially when Korea is making efforts to contribute to overcoming the consequences of the war as well as contributing to Viet Nam socio-economic development. Based on the KVMAP’s results, Mr. Dongouk Ahn believed the KVPVP would be successful and bring many practical benefits to Binh Dinh province.

He pledged to accompany Binh Dinh in the process of implementing the KVPVP; at the same time, hoped that Binh Dinh leaders would continue to take interests and closely direct provincial related departments, agencies and localities so that the project could be effectively implemented on scheduled, contributing to further strengthening the good relations between the Korean Embassy in Vietnam and Binh Dinh province in the coming time./.
