Presentations at the workshop were focused on the analysis of advantages and disadvantages as well as experience sharing in terms of technical issues in the construction of irrigational and hydroelectric concrete spillways, following the labyrinth and piano hinge.
According to Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Giang, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – Chairman of Vietnam Association for Large Dams and Water Resource Development, in the world the measure to be selected for the construction of spillways under the labyrinth and piano hinge had been researched and applied to build irrigational and hydroelectric spillways for years. In Vietnam, in recent years the measure for the construction, following the labyrinth and piano hinge had also been researched and designed for some spillways such as Van Phong Spillway (in Binh Dinh Province), Dak Mi Spillway (in Quang Nam Province), etc. This measure has some advantages, including low cost, safety and little maintenance.
As known, the international workshop “Labyrinth spillway and piano hinge” was first organized in Liège (Belgium) in 2011, the second in Paris (France) in 2013. The third workshop in Quy Nhon lasts three days (from the 22nd to 24th of February, 2017)
