The assistance of constructing the economic development strategy and increasing the connectivity

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Quang said that UN-Habitat had supported the project implementation of the urban development strategy with the community involvement in several cities in Vietnam, including Quy Nhon City. Mr. Yossi Offer – an expert of international urban development, International Cooperation Center – Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave a brief on the assistance of the focused economic development strategy in tourism and economic zones as well as the increase of connectivity. He also introduced the initiatives so as to enhance the competitiveness of Binh Dinh in general and Quy Nhon City in particular, improving the operational efficiency of small and medium-sized enterprises; thereby, promoting the economic growth of the province.

Representative of City Development Strategy (CDS) informed the ideas of implementing the five strategies to develop Quy Nhon City such as improving the living environment of the people in the slums; planning eco-tourism development based on the community; establishing high-quality education center and vocational training center in Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, planning the development of creative city in Nhon Hoi; applying integrated management and planning industrial zones in order to prevent the environmental degradation and enhance the adaptive capacity; upgrading the ports and transport systems so as to improve the commerce and services of the city. It was the result of the collaboration between UN-Habitat and Quy Nhon City People's Committee in the past years.

Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Ho Quoc Dung highly valued the support and assistance of UN-Habitat to Quy Nhon City in the past years. With the great potential for tourism development, the Chairman said Quy Nhon City in particular and Binh Dinh in general would become a well-known destination in Vietnam and in the world. Therefore, the ideas of UN-Habitat experts became necessary and appropriate with the planning for the development of Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province. 

Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Ho Quoc Dung hoped to continue receiving the assistance of UN-Habitat so as to publicize the images of Binh Dinh to the world and establish an agency to support Binh Dinh enterprises. He also emphasized the establishment of a mechanism to assist small and medium-sized enterprises. Besides, one of the important issues was to improve the capacity of tourism officials so that they could present their ideas and measures to develop tourism sector. Binh Dinh People’s Committee and UN-habitat agreed to promote the collaboration and connectivity.

According to the plan of UN-Habitat in Binh Dinh Province, the delegation had a meeting with leaders of Quy Nhon City People’s Committee to deploy initiatives, identify the initial potential and the following steps, including the identification of initial potential, benefits and the role of Quy Nhon City during the process of construction and implementation of the initiatives.
