Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh met with a delegation of Orbis Flying Eye Hospital

On the afternoon of May 8th, 2016, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh had a meeting with the delegation of Orbis Flying Eye Hospital regarding the organizational scheme of Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Program in Binh Dinh Province. The meeting was also attended by leading representatives of related departments and agencies.

A representative of the delegation talked about Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Program.


At the meeting, Dr. Balerta Joane Crosby - Program Manager – gave a brief on Orbis Organization as well as Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Program. As known, Orbis is a non-governmental organization (NGO) devoted to blindness prevention and treatment in developing countries. Orbis came to Vietnam in 2000. Presently, Orbis is implementing the project “Developing pediatric eye care services in Binh Dinh Province” with a total capital of more than 1.2 million USD.

Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Program is a unique model of advanced internationally recognised ophthalmic training, with modern medical devices as well as well-known doctors and experts worldwide in the field of ophthalmology. The purpose is to update and transfer the techniques during the treatment of ophthalmic patients in developing countries. Orbis Flying Eye Hospital implemented such programs in Da Nang in 2006, 2010 and 2012; in Ho Chi Minh City in 2008; in Hue in 2015; in Ha Noi in 2015. The main activities of Flying Eye Hospital include hands-on training, the medical examination and practice on the models by probationary students, the lectures on typical research cases given by experts, conferences and workshops on ophthalmology, the surgery and laser treatment for patients.

It is expected that Orbis International will deploy Orbis Flying Eye Hospial Program in Binh Dinh Province in 2017. In order to prepare for this program, the delegation queried related departments and agencies about the procedures of security, the immigration for flight crew, staff, doctors as well as medical equipment, the license for flight crew to go in and out, and the approval for news agencies, both national and international, to publicize Orbis activities in Binh Dinh Province.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh expressed his thanks to the delegation for the survey and implementation of Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Program in Binh Dinh Province in 2017. He completely agreed with the scheme of Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Program in Binh Dinh Province and committed to creating favorable conditions for Orbis as well as relevant departments, agencies and units to effectively implement the program in the province.
