Attending the meeting were also Vice Chairwoman of PPC Tran Thi Thu Ha, prof. Tran Thanh Van, Chairman of Rencontres du Vietnam, prof. Le Kim Ngoc, Chairwoman of Viet Nam Children Protection Association (in France) and leader representatives of relevant departments and agencies in the province.
Leaders of Binh Dinh People’s Committee met with prof. Jerome Friedman.
At the meeting, prof. Jerome Friedman expressed his thanks for warm welcome from leaders of Binh Dinh Province. He was also honored to be invited to Binh Dinh Province. He had a talk with students and those loving science and shared experience in science and education fields with leaders of high schools, colleges, and universities in the province.
Sharing with Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Ho Quoc Dung in the field of science and technology development and linking science to the world through the establishment of the forthcoming Science Center: The Planetarium and Exploratorium in Binh Dinh Province, prof. Jerome Friedman noticed that fundamental science helps every nation (to) further develop. The construction and linking between the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) and the Science Centre is the starting point for Binh Dinh to become a scientific center.
The Professor thought that Viet Nam educational system has such “problems”. He also said that there were many Vietnamese talented students at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – a U.S. well-known institute. The important thing was that how to create such favorable environment for working and developing so that these students would come back to their home country to work.
The Professor hoped that the infrastructure improvement would facilitate scientists to do research in here. Then, a lot of Vietnamese students would be motivated and they would come back to Viet Nam to work and contribute to the nation. Prof. Jerome Friedman proposed that in order for these scientific projects promote their effects, becoming exchanging and interactive place among international and national scientists, especially young scientists, Binh Dinh Province should carry out such specific itineraries, long-term and sustainable investment schemes. The construction of the Science Centre in the province should meet two functions: public science and professional science.
Prof. Jerome Friedman also said that he would provide more support for the province as a bridge to connect international professors, scientists to Binh Dinh Province so as to share knowledge and create a connection between Vietnamese scientists sand international community. One important thing was to supply the expenditure for such scientific establishment as the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) and the Planetarium and the Exploratorium for their independent activities. It was also necessary to have such support from the State Science and Technology Management Agencies. The Professor also emphasized the role of universities in assisting and facilitating students to approach and promote their independence in scientific research. The responsibility to develop science is based on youth generations.
At the end of the meeting, Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Ho Quoc Dung expressed his gratitude to prof. Jerome Friedman for sharing invaluable experience in organizing and promoting the effects of scientific projects as well as hoped the Professor to continue working as “a bridge” to assist Viet Nam in general and Binh Dinh in particular to get closer to international scientific community.
