Opening of NASA Vietnam Week in Binh Dinh

In particular, the event had the presence of Mr. Michael Baker, a former astronaut of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and nearly 1,000 students at all levels in and outside the province.

NASA Week is an annual event to highlight NASA's achievements and contributions in space exploration, scientific research, and technology development with activities organized by NASA and its partners. . This is the first time the program has been held in a Southeast Asian country and Binh Dinh is honored to be one of three provinces and cities chosen to host some NASA Week events.

The program takes place in 02 days: June 8, 2023 and June 9, 2023, with the main activities being: chatting with astronauts;  NASA STEM DAY and Explore the Starry Sky - Starry Night.

NASA Week in Vietnam - VIETNAM SPACE WEEK aims to inspire the young generation about Astronaut stories in the working and living environment in space and space; sharing about scientific research on how to protect the earth, avoid environmental pollution, warn of the risk of collisions with other planets, extraterrestrial life and space aliens...; thereby providing vocational education and career orientation for the young generation; and organize STEM education activities - NASA STEM DAY for teenagers.

Some of the activities and events that often take place during NASA Space Week include lectures and seminars, virtual tours of NASA facilities, hands-on science activities and demonstrations, online contests and challenges as well as social media campaigns. NASA also partners with schools, museums, science centers, and other organizations to promote space science education and outreach.

 Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Lam Hai Giang, Head of the Organizing Committee of NASA Week in Binh Dinh said, Binh Dinh is a land rich in cultural - historical - revolutionary traditions;  At the same time, Binh Dinh is also considered a province with a very important strategic position in the socio-economic development of the Central Key Economic Zone, one of the nearest gateways to the sea of the provinces.  Central Highlands, Southern Laos, Northeast Cambodia and Thailand.

 Over the years, Binh Dinh has always paid attention to the development of science and technology, considering this as one of the most important driving forces for the local socio-economic development. Binh Dinh province has been gradually forming Quy Hoa Science Urban Area, a new model to implement Resolution 20 dated November 1, 2012 of the Party Central Committee in the presence of the International Center for Science and Technology. Interdisciplinary Education (ICISE); Center for Scientific Discovery and Innovation; Quy Nhon International Basic Science Research Institute, TMA Creative Park, FPT Softvare. In addition, Binh Dinh also has universities, scientific research institutes and specialized technology development in many fields. These are important scientific and technological potentials contributing to the development of Binh Dinh in the past time as well as in the present and in the future.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Lam Hai Giang emphasized: To implement the strategy for development and application of space science and technology to 2030 issued by the Prime Minister, one of the tasks set for Binh Dinh is: “Connecting, collaborating, and enlisting the support of prestigious international research organizations such as the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the French and Japanese aeronautics and space research agencies. to organize scientific exhibitions and seminars in the fields of Cosmology and Space Science.” Thereby, spreading scientific knowledge and love of science to the public and children.

 NASA STEM DAY Program and Starry Night Discovery Program - Starry Night is a series of hands-on activities about STEM education, learning, and discovering the secrets of the universe held at the Discovery Center. Therefore, through this event, we hope that young people will continue to persevere, cherish their dreams of scientific discovery, and turn their dreams into reality.
