Binh Dinh leaders congratulated Prof. Le Kim Ngoc on the National Order of Legion of Honor, handed by the President of France

On the morning of July 18, 2016, Secretary of Binh Dinh Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Tung came to the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE), Ghenh Rang Ward, Quy Nhon City to give flowers to Prof. Le Kim Ngoc, Chairwoman of Vietnam Children Sponsoring Association in France on the occasion of the Professor was awarded the National Order of Legion of Honor (the noblest order of the France State) by the President of France for the great contribution to the science of France and the assistance for the orphaned.

Secretary of Binh Dinh Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Tung gave flowers to Prof. Le Kim Ngoc.

 “This is not only an honor for Prof. Le Kim Ngoc and Prof. Tran Thanh Van but also for Vietnam. The two professors have had a great contribution for France and for the science of Vietnam in general, Binh Dinh in particular. I wish both of you good health and continue to contribute to Vietnam science.” Secretary of Binh Dinh Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Tung said.

Presently, Prof. Le Kim Ngoc and Prof. Tran Thanh Van, Chairman of Rencontres du Vietnam, are in Binh Dinh to organize the scientific activities in the framework of “The 12th Rencontres du Vietnam” in 2016. Prof. Tran Thanh Van was also awarded the National Order of Legion of Honor in 1999.

Prof. Le Kim Ngoc was born in Vinh Long Province. She came to France to study at Sorbonne University (Paris) in 1953. In 1956, she graduated the natural science major with a top grade, and then studied for Ph.D degree at the National Center for Research and Science in France.

Prof. Le Kim Ngoc has got many achievements in scientific research, especially the paper “Cell thin slices”, which was considered meaningful way, opening a new era for the biotechnology industry, being widely applied in multiplication based on the mother plants, gene transplant technology in order to create new varieties, etc. Her name was known a lot on the newspapers in the UK and France in the 1970s.

In 1970, Prof. Le Kim Ngoc and Prof. Tran Thanh Van established Vietnam Sponsoring Association in France to mobilize and raise money to support Vietnam children. In 1972, the association officially became a member of the International SOS Children's Village with an aim of helping Vietnam children.
