The Opening Ceremony of the International Workshop “Fundamental Science and Society”
Prof. Tran Thanh Van gave a speech at the Opening Ceremony.
At the ceremony, Prof. Tran Thanh Van expressed his thanks to the Government of Vietnam and Binh Dinh leaders, especially well-known professors, scientists coming to Binh Dinh to attend the workshop with an aim of promoting the Vietnam scientific development so as to contribute to the development of the nation and the province.
Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee gave a welcome speech at the Ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Ho Quoc Dung emphasized, “The workshop aims at providing scientists opportunities to exchange and propose the issues related to fundamental science and society; promote the exchange and cooperation for scientific research between scientists, managers and enterprises; at the same time, consolidate and deepen the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam in general, Binh Dinh in particular with countries in the world”. The Chairman believed that this is also the opportunity for delegates to better understanding of the historical and cultural characteristics, the beautiful scenery and the people of Binh Dinh Province.
H.E. Mr. Vu Duc Dam gave a speech at the ceremony.
H.E. Mr. Vu Duc Dam, Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam confirmed, “UNESCO has identified science, technology and innovation as a driving force to achieve the objective of sustainable development in the agenda of the United Nations up to 2030. It was suggested that Vietnam should focus on applied research, and basic/fundamental research is for developed countries. However, the Vietnam Government always has a complete viewpoint that fundamental science is the foundation that needs to be invested, and the investment for fundamental science is the investment for the foundation as well as for strengthening the national capacities.”
M.E. Mr. Vu Duc Dam believed, “All advance in the 20th century must be indebted in basic/fundamental science”, the scientific achievement is the general heritage of humanity and to participate in the enrichment of vestiges is the honor as well as the responsibility of each nation, each person.
Before the opening ceremony, H.E. Mr. Vu Duc Dam, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Chu Ngoc Anh, Prof. Tran Thanh Van, 5 Nobel laureates, Prof. Ngo Bao Chau and well-known scientists in the world participated in planting the trees in the commemorative garden at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE).
