Binh Dinh Province to build runway No. 2 at Phu Cat Airport
The investment project to build runway No. 2 and synchronous works at Phu Cat has a total investment of VND 3,010 billion, with the People's Committee of Binh Dinh Province as the managing agency.
The Government Office has just conveyed the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on the project to build runway No. 2 and synchronous works at Phu Cat Airport. Accordingly, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the People's Committee of Binh Dinh Province to be the managing agency to invest in the project according to the proposal of the Ministry of Transport.
Currently, Phu Cat Airport has a runway 3,048 m long and 45 m wide. According to the plan, runway No. 2 runs parallel, 215 m west of the existing road, 3,048 m long and 45 m wide. The new runway will operate code C aircraft such as A320/A321 and equivalent, and can accommodate Boeing 787, 777, A350 when needed.
Previously, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province submitted a proposal to the Government to approve the investment plan for Phu Cat airport with a total investment of about 3,010 billion VND, of which the compensation and site clearance value is about 1,000 billion VND to meet the socio-economic development needs of the locality.
The province also proposed that the Government consider submitting to the National Assembly for approval a special mechanism to assign the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province to invest using the budget capital managed by the province, including the central government's support capital of about 1,500 billion VND. Because according to the provisions of the Law on Civil Aviation and related decrees, the authority to invest in the construction of runway No. 2, taxiways and airport facilities belongs to the Ministry of Transport and the airport enterprise.
In the period 2021-2030, Phu Cat airport is planned to have a capacity of 5 million passengers and 12,000 tons of cargo per year. In this phase, a new T3 passenger terminal will be built with a capacity of about 3.5 million passengers/year. By 2050, the airport will reach a capacity of 7 million passengers and 27,000 tons of cargo per year, operating code C aircraft and equivalent. In this phase, the T3 passenger terminal will be expanded to increase the capacity to 7 million passengers.
30 km northwest of Quy Nhon city center, Phu Cat airport currently has a two-storey terminal, designed capacity of 2.5 million passengers per year; a runway longer than 3,000 m, 45 m wide and 7 parking positions. In recent years, Binh Dinh tourism industry has developed, so Phu Cat airport is often overloaded, especially during holidays and Tet. It is forecasted that by 2025, the locality will welcome about 7.5 million passengers and increase to 12 million by 2030.
