The Opening Ceremony of the International Neutrino Summer School in Vietnam

On the morning of July 18, 2016, at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE), Ghenh Rang Ward, Quy Nhon City, Rencontres du Vietnam in collaboration with Binh Dinh People’s Committee and Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology organized the International Neutrino summer course in physics.

This is the 8^th international summer school in the world and the first one in Vietnam. The summer school was co-organized by Prof. Deborah Harris and Prof. Boris Kayser, the laboratory of Fermilab Research Center, the U.S. The summer school attracted about 60 students, researchers and young scientists from 13 countries and territories in the world.

Prof. Tran Thanh Van, Chairman of Recontres du Vietnam, gave a speech at the Opening Ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Tran Chau said, “The summer school is a forum for scientists, students, both domestic and overseas to meet one another, exchange experience in the field of basic particle physics. Besides, when attending this summer course in physics, students have opportunities to share experience and meet with international scientific researchers with the hope that they may become colleagues or collaborators in the future”.

Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh People’s Committee Tran Chau gave a welcome speech.

Prof. Tran Thanh Van, Chairman of Rencontres du Vietnam, said that Neutrino physics has become one of the main fields of research in basic particle physics in the world. However, the deep research in Neutrino physics has not become a basic part in post-graduate programs. The main purpose of the international Neutrino summer school is to provide students a solid foundation in a relatively new and large field.

Prof. Deborar Harris, the laboratory of Particle Physics in Fermilab, Batavia (the U.S) gave a speech at the ceremony.

The main topics of this summer school include standard model, Neutrino phenomenon, Neutrino oscillations, Neutrino cross section, Neutrino detectors, Neutrino in astrophysics and cosmology, solar energy, atmospheric Neutrino experiments, accelerator Neutrino experiments, direct Neutrino measurements, etc.
