“Policy communication drives action towards net zero emissions (NetZero)”

 (binhdinh.gov.vn) - That is the topic of the conference recently organized by the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with the Binh Dinh Department of Natural Resources and Environment in Quy Nhon City this morning (October 27). Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang attended and spoke at the conference.

 Climate change is one of the challenges facing many countries around the world, affecting all aspects of economics, politics, diplomacy and global security. At the 26th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference (COP26), along with countries around the world, Vietnam made commitments including a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions according to  net zero emissions target by 2050.

 To move towards the "zero" net emissions roadmap by 2050, the Government has issued many documents directing implementation such as: Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP dated January 7, 2022 of the Government regulating  intend to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and protect the ozone layer; Decision No. 01/2022/QD-TTg dated January 18, 2022 of the Prime Minister promulgating a list of fields and establishments emitting greenhouse gases that must conduct a greenhouse gas inventory; Decision No. 523/QD-TTg dated April 1, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving Vietnam's forestry development strategy for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050; Decision No. 1658/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021 - 2030, vision 2050;  Decision No. 888/QD-TTg dated July 25, 2022 of the Prime Minister approving the Project on tasks and solutions to implement the results of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention  about climate change…

In which, the "National Strategy on Climate Change up to 2050" issued by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 896/QD-TTg dated July 26, 2022 clearly stated the specific target for the whole country to achieve.  net zero emissions by 2050 and specific solutions. The overall goal of this Strategy is to proactively and effectively adapt and reduce vulnerability, loss and damage due to climate change; reduce greenhouse gas emissions according to the net zero emission target by 2050, making a positive and responsible contribution to the international community in protecting the Earth's climate system; Take advantage of opportunities from responding to climate change to transform the growth model and improve the economy's resilience and competitiveness.

 At the workshop, experts informed about legal policies on environmental resources. At the same time, mentioning actions to promote sustainable development, implement national goals on green growth, circular economy, towards net zero emissions such as: Deploying solutions urgently reduce vulnerability and increase resilience to the impacts of climate change; Give highest priority to ensuring safety and livelihoods for people in areas at risk of being severely affected;  Focus on developing infrastructure to respond to climate change and energy transition based on the potential and advantages of regions. Focus resources on responding to climate change, developing financial mechanisms and carbon markets, promoting investment shifts for low-emission economic development; promote the State's resources, promote the attraction of resources from organizations, businesses, individuals, and international resources, promote public-private cooperation on the basis of equality, cooperation, and mutual benefit...

 Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang spoke at the conference.

 Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang said that in recent times, leaders of the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee of Binh Dinh province have been very interested in and following the correct orientation of green growth, circular economy,  do not trade the environment for development, reduce emissions, aim for net zero emissions - (NetZero) before 2050. Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 09/KH-UBND dated January 19, 2023 on  implementation of the National Strategy on climate change in Binh Dinh province for the period up to 2050.

 Comrade Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang hopes that through the conference, delegates will turn perceptions into concrete actions to achieve the results of the "National Strategy on Climate Change for the period up to 2050"./.
