Ensure the progress of implementation of UNDP-funded projects in the province

 UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Vietnam said that Binh Dinh is one of the few localities in Vietnam to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with UNDP. He highly appreciated the efforts of Binh Dinh province in the process of preparing and implementing UNDP-funded projects in the province, including: Non-project "Piloting models of domestic solid waste management and waste management", waste from the fisheries sector to promote circular economy in Quy Nhon city"; Project "Supporting the implementation of the National Action Plan on ocean plastic waste in the context of post-COVID-19 green recovery in Vietnam"; Project "Smart coastal communities adapting to climate change in Vietnam"; Project "Vietnam - Korea Peace Village" in Binh Dinh province.

 Regarding the Non-project "Piloting models for managing domestic solid waste and waste from the fisheries industry to promote circular economy in Quy Nhon city", Mr. Patrick Haverman said, one of the important results is The most important part of this project is the establishment of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to process 2-4 tons of plastic waste per day.

 In the field of fisheries, UNDP is coordinating with Binh Dinh Fisheries Department and Quy Nhon city to implement a program to collect plastic waste from fishing boats to shore. This morning (November 27), UNDP launched this program, at the same time inaugurated a warehouse at Quy Nhon Fishing Port and handed over equipment to support the collection and transportation of plastic waste to 200 fishing vessels. Mr. Patrick Haverman hopes to receive strong support from the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province in implementing this Program, especially, in the future if possible, promulgating Binh Dinh's policy to institutionalize waste collection regulations. Mr. Patrick Haverman said that the project "Supporting the implementation of the National Action Plan on ocean plastic waste in the context of post-COVID-19 green recovery in Vietnam" is a project that has just been approved by the Global Environment Facility,  approved with a total budget of 2 million USD. The project will supplement and strengthen support for Material Recovery Facilities, and propose deeper interventions such as waste classification at source, solutions to reduce plastic in the food and beverage sector drink in Binh Dinh province. The project is managed by the General Administration of Seas and Islands (VASI).  Meanwhile, Binh Dinh will play a key role in implementing activities at the local level.

 Mr. Patrick Haverman also said that in recent times, UNDP together with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Dinh, relevant departments, branches and local authorities have coordinated closely in building the Project. “Vietnam's climate-smart coastal communities”. The project will contribute to improving the resilience to climate change of vulnerable coastal communities, especially women, and enriching marine and coastal biodiversity in Binh Dinh province. To achieve the set goal, Mr. Patrick Haverman requested Binh Dinh province to speed up the project approval process and soon prepare a project implementation plan after approval.
